What shall I do with a life turned to memory?

The last time  I went photocopying was in May, just before the MCA zine fair, and afterwards, even though I meant to do another run so I could post the new zines on Etsy and send them to distros, I felt so sandblasted that I could not handle the sight of the Officeworks photocopiers (snazzy as they now are) without experiencing a mild panic.

I’ve  calmed down a little bit now and, as always is the case with me when it comes to times of stress, I’ve found myself turning back to the typewriter and to zine-making and -reading. Plus I’m going on a month long holiday tomorrow, and have put the Etsy store on hold for the duration, so if you’d like to get any of our more recent issues (including Sutures, Shy #2 and Ampersand after Ampersand #3) I’ve sent out a big box of zines to Sticky, and there should also be some available on mail order from Take Care as well.

And I’ve also sent out the first copies of my new zine COME BACK (home to me).

A6 (quarter size), 16 pages. There is no picture, because I haven’t taken one.

This is my first limited edition zine, mainly because the paper for the covers comes from a tiny old newsagent in Melbourne’s Chinatown (a town that I’m unlikely to visit again any time soon), and it’s a mix tape love letter to Electrelane. It’s also about repetition, perfect dreaming, Springsteen covers, and a little tiny bit about when Nietzche met Groundhog Day.

So I’m off to reunite with some of the people I call home, and will be back when the winter weather does not match my temperament so well. Until then, to quote Phil Connors quoting Coleridge, remember that “Winter, slumbering in the open air, wears on its smiling face a dream of spring”.

x Amanda

P.S. The fetus will still be checking both real and internet mailboxes so keep up the trading!

Trades from all around

Well I know we always say we will do a write up about excellent zines we find on our travels but somehow it never happens, kind of like when Tyra said she was going to have a successful singing career but then didn’t. Well we are one up on Tyra now (as if we weren’t already) because this post will be about zine trades.

*round of applause*

Epitaph For My Heart #5

Seems our young Panda has been into either some kind of voodoo magic or has been sleeping with a rabbits head under her pillow because she’s back with ANOTHER new zine!
epi5
Epitaph for My Heart #5 is another brilliant zine in the series of Epitaph. This issue you will tell you about sleezy pick-ups lines and how to deal with them, portable karaoke, a dissection of types of friends ranging from work to ‘hobby’ friends and a convincing comparison of the TV show OZ and real life.
You’ll be able to buy Epitaph #5 online at our shop soon, pick it up at upcoming zine fairs (including Adelaide & MCA) and of course you can always trade with us.

Trade with us! Send you zines to:

TINY PAPER HEARTS
P.O. BOX 392
NEWTOWN, NSW, 2042
AUSTRALIA

That’s it!

Zine Competition

If you were at Verge Markets last thursday you would most likely have seen a man wearing a giant colourful poster with the words “Zine Competition” printed across it (much like the flyer below, minus the colour.) Don’t be fooled this isn’t a new fashion trend (although I do frequently wear posters as formal wear) its a zine competition for all you zine makers out there that are strapped for cash (as usual) and desperate to get your new zine made. The Co-op bookshop & Verge Arts Festival are offering the winner of the zine comp 40 copies of their zine, 20 to be sold at the Sydney Co-op bookshop, 20 to be kept, and all the money made from the zine sales will go back to the winner.

(Click on the image to read the small print)

So if you have an unpublished zine that you would like to see published for free why not enter this competition. All you have to do is take you zine into the Sydney Co-op bookshop and ask them about it. Unfortunately, I don’t know the end date of this competition and can’t find any info online about it but I propose that before the end of September you get your zine into the Co-op bookshop. If anyone does know this info please contact us!

Meanwhile check out Verge Art Festival Website.

Good Luck and may the cut & pasting begin!
