I’ve got February on my mind…

Hey guys and dolls,

It’s been quiet around these parts to be sure, but there’s a few projects we’ve been working on which will be revealed come February. But in the interest of getting organised early there’s a couple of dates to pencil into your 2010 diaries.

Firstly, Mary-Helen will be participating in the Undiscovered Press exhibition hosted by the Platform Artists Group Inc in Melbourne. It runs from the 8th February to the 26th February in the Degraves Street Subway but the night to pay attention to is the opening drinks on Friday 12th February. There are 12 amazing zinemakers/artists involved so it should be an excellent night indeed.

And, as timing would have it, Sticky‘s Festival of the Photocopier will be having their annual zine fair on Saturday 13th February, also in the Degraves Street Subway. Tables are free for zinemakers so get in contact with them via stickyshop [at] gmail [dot] com for more information on getting registered. Amanda’s currently working on a hefty zine which will hopefully be launched in time for the fair and if the gods smile on us then we might also have a joint zine completed as well. Since it’ll be the first time that we have made a zine related trip to Melbourne together we’re pretty excited!

Sticky’s still working on the rest of the program for the festival but details should be on their website soon and we’ll update again as more events are posted.

New zines from us

We know we’ve been a tad quiet over the past couple of months blog wise but that doesn’t mean the zine making has stopped. Check out our new zines below. Available online at our etsy and madeit stores soon or trade (of course!)

Things I never said (1) by Amanda

A6 16 page B/W zine.

Kind of exactly what it sounds like i.e. thirteen things that I have at one point or another had the chance to say but didn’t.

More things I wish I had said, as well as some interesting facts about sea life taken from the Girls’ Crystal Annual 1959.

More excellent stuff you should know about

What, another post already you say? Why yes, yes it is! I’m going to try and fit everything that’s happening into one post so fasten your seat belts kids, it’s going to be a bumpy night…

The Fetus

Firstly, my esteemed partner in crime, The Fetus, has been up to all kinds of shenanigans both within and across state lines! Check out her interview with the lovely Kelly from Catacomb Creative and while you’re there take a look at all the amazing design/craft/zine events going on in Melbourne-town.

Mural

Secondly, she is also responsible for the fantastic mural on the wall of Bird in the Hand‘s new zine shop as part of the Renew Newcastle project. To see it in person you can visit the shop from Thursdays to Sundays, 11am to 4pm at 100a King Street Newcastle. Susy also needs more zines to stock in the shop so if you’re a zinemaker contact her at quiet.chirps[at]gmail.com.

24 Hour Zine Thing

Thirdly, July is International Zine Month! And as part of this excellent month the 24 Hour Zine Thing is running again [thanks zine-aus google groups]! So it goes like this – sign up to the website with your zine name and zine goal and from then you have 24 hours to make a zine of any size. Once it’s done send your zine to Avocade Tree Distro in Virgina, USA [who run the project] and they’ll send you back another 24 hour zine and a badge as well as scanning your zine cover for the website. The Fetus and I have decided we’re going to participate since there’s nothing like winter to make you feel like staying inside cutting and pasting, it’d be awesome if more Australian zinemakers [new and seasoned] got involved.

AND THAT’S IT!

Featured Artist on Noise.net

As it would happen, I (the fetus) have more talents than just tapping on computer keys, that’s right, I am also skilled at uploading images to the web (like this one you see below). This week I am a featured artist on Noise.net, a great worldwide website for artists of all kinds to share their work.

Feel free to check out my stuff, complete with a saucy interview with me, where I tell all my secrets, not really, at all.

That’s all for now,

Adopt a Grump Cat and Mini Zine Packs!

Well now, this has been a big old night of blogging. Still, I have one more thing to tell you all. The little felt Grump Cats I’ve been making are now ready to be adopted from our etsy! Hooray! I can’t really feed all those mouths after all and while I may weep a bit when I seal the package with them inside I will know they are going to a good home. You better be quick though because Grump Cats grow up fast into plain old grumps and who wants them?

Also on our etsy you will find Mini Zine Packs of my mini zines, as well as a zine collection of all my A5 zines. These are sure to make you giggle, if they don’t, then I will not be held responsible, not this time Jimmy.

These will also be available at Sticky very soon, so if you are a melbournite, you can just hang out till then.

Now I know what you are thinking, what about Amanda? Why all fetus, fetus, FETUS!? Well Amanda has also stocked up on all her zines including her Epitah For My Heart Zine Collection (which includes the first 3 issues of this serial zine), as well as Epitaph #4 and She wasn’t fooling anyone zine.
These will all be available at Sticky too! And don’t forget about Amanda’s little felt badges, she’s got some new designs and they are terribly cute!

Anyhoo, that is most definitely it for tonight. I don’t think there is anything else to tell you about, not a damn thing.
